Buy Art Online: Limited Edition, Lost and Found Prints
A while back, I released my first book off illustrations, “Lost and Found, a book of structures“. The first edition sold out pretty quickly and is now in its second edition.
As you may have seen, I’m pretty much a fanatic when it come to illustrating buildings.
As I traveled around the world, these illustrations were the result of a visual diary that I kept as I recorded the environments that I observed.
As well as releasing the book, I have now released a series of illustrations taken directly from the pages of “Lost and Found”.

One of the interesting things about traveling and recording what you see visually when you are in a foreign environment are the elements that you pick up on as being unique. Philadelphia telephone lines for one. I was amazed at all the abstract shapes that would form from these endless amounts of cables. Back home in Scotland they’re all underground. It may seem like a small thing but to me it’s the little things that stand out about about a place that makes traveling such a unique experience.
If you’re an illustrator and you’re finding yourself uninspired of late then I suggest you grab a backpack, some drawing material and head for the open road. Things were kind of tight for me back then and I ended up working some crazy kitchen jobs to pay for it but I am in no doubt that it was the most valuable experience at that point that I could have had.

I suppose the idea now is to try and get my prints out there and share my visual experiences. If it’s your thing to buy art online then these prints may be of interest.
all prints are limited edition and are signed and numbered.
With more and more folks opting for the buy art online route it kind of made sense to put these up on the store.

I’m sometimes torn between the the two different routes to getting your work out and about. there’s the more traditional option of showing in galleries which is great for exposure and always a fun experience. It’s true that the original book launch was a great success and I probably would have got the exposure that the book got without it. in terms of actually selling your work and targeting specific audiences though, the idea of an online store seems to be becoming an increasingly popular idea.
I suppose I’ll have to sit on the fence and make the concession that it’s not necessarily a matter of “buy art through galleries” against “buy art online” but in fact more important for an artist that you should be striving to find a balance with both. I wouldn’t ever pull back entirely from the gallery scene if only to ensure that we don’t all become a planet of humans transfixed by our glossy computer screens.
